Mudchute Park and Farm

Mudchute Park and Farm

Open today from 0800 until 0500

We had a great time at Mudchute during February half term. Mothers and children came out to enjoy the unexpected February sunshine and it was a great day. The farm offers opportunities for children to not only see animals but also to feed them and get up close to them. The farm is well kept and there were several staff around to ask a question if unsure. Staff are welcoming and approachable. There are several entrances to the park all accessible with a pushchair. Upon arrival, we met infront of the cafe which gave the opportunity for toilet runs. When we waited some parents checked out what was on the menu in the cafe in preparation for when we return for lunch, while some parents purchased animal feeds ready for the walk around. Our first stop was the donkey rides which was great and the queue was light. The staff supported children to have rides which were short enough for little ones to have a turn. One of the great things about the staff at the donkey rides was them telling the children safety precautions to take when approaching and riding a donkey. The older children were very interested. It's a free flow walk around and very spacious farm which meant we could casually take our time to go around the farm in whatever direction we chose. Older children read the information boards to the younger children which was really nice. The animals were very responsive to children and were all out for everyone to see. Mudchute farm offer food at a reasonable £1 per pack which was sufficient (if managed by an adult lol) Food is purchased at the main reception. There were several hand wash stations as we walked around which meant after feeding animals the children washed their hands. We stopped for lunch half-way through the day. We simply walked back to the cafe area and sat down on the benches with pack lunches. Some parents ordered food at the cafe which looked scrumptious. As it was busy the food took a little bit of time but those with pack lunch and cafe meals still managed to finish at similar times. The lunch area was clean and spacious. There were several tables within good proximity of each other so great for groups. After a quick toilet run, we returned to going around the farm. Then we met the greatest thing ever .... a hill! The children rolled down it, run down it, fell down it .. they loved it!!! So us mums had to get in on the action for a mum-race down the hill with a very hard walk back up hahaha. We spent the last part our day out on the hill with the children running around, screaming every time a sheep burped and genuinely burning any energy they had left. THEY HAD FUN! For a free day out this was absolutely perfect. Grab your wellies, £1 and a packed lunch and got to MUDCHUTE FARM.
